Saco River canoe and float

“Canoe” Camping

We spent one night at On The Saco Family Campground. We arrived early afternoon, dropped off our camping gear and my bike, then drove to the boat launch on Lovewell Pond in Fryeburg on “Fish and Game Road” (no cost to park or launch a boat). We launched two canoes and paddled down the Saco back to campsite. On the way we stopped multiple times to swim and had plenty of snacks along the way. When we arrived at the campsite, I rode my bike back to the boat launch (6 miles) to get the truck and Kati set up our tent and got dinner going. Ruth was 1 and Adi was 3 with Kati and I, Kati’s aunt and uncle joined is as well.

Float Trip

We also did the paddle portion of this trip on its own once. This time we dropped a car at Woodland Acres Campground (for a small fee) where we would eventually get off of the river. We then drove up to the boat launch on Lovewell Pond and launched two kayaks, a canoe and two paddleboards. We stopped for a picnic lunch on a sandy spot on the shore but otherwise floated, paddled a swam all the way down the river. Ruth was 1 and Adi was 3 with Kati and I, one grandparent, one aunt and two uncles.
